At its fall meeting, the Triangle Education Foundation elected new officers of
the Board. Elected were James McShane marq65, Chairman; Robert Benziger ill61,
Vice Chair; Dr. Wayne Echelberger sdm54, Treasurer; Michael O’Connor marq74,
Secretary; and Scott Bova, CFRE, President. Each officer was elected to a two
year term.
Jim McShane assumes the Chairman’s position from Randy Drew rose67 who was term
limited. Mr. McShane is the Chief Executive Officer of The McShane Companies,
an integrated real estate development and design/build firm headquartered in
Rosemont, Illinois. He also serves as the President of The McShane Foundation.
Mr. McShane received his BCE from Marquette University in 1968. He serves on
the Marquette University Engineering Advisory Board and was the recipient of
the ‘Professional Achievement Award’ from the College of Engineering in 2003.
Jim resides in Bannockburn, Illinois with his wife, Kelly. They have five
children – Katie, Dan, Molly, Anne and Michael – and three grandchildren
Brother Bob Benziger ill61 was elected to a second term as Vice Chairman. Mr.
Benziger is a 1961 initiate from the University of Illinois where he earned his
BSEE in 1965 and his J.D. in 1967. While at Illinois, he served as the Triangle
Chapter Secretary.
His professional experience includes positions as Patent Attorney at The Bendix
Corporation, Patent and Trademark Attorney at Ford Motor Company and Trademark
Counsel, Senior Attorney, Assistant General Counsel and Associate General
Counsel for Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Bob and his wife, Kim, reside in
Deerfield, Illinois. They have two sons, Keith and Seth, and three
grandchildren.
Assuming the position of Secretary of the Board is Brother Michael O’Connor
marq74. Mr. O’Connor has been in the construction management business for the
past 25 years most recently serving as President of AFG Construction
Management, Inc. He received his BSEE from Marquette in 1975 and a MSEE from
the University of Colorado in 1982. Mike, his wife, Cheryl, and two children,
Patrick and Caitlin, currently live in a suburb of Washington D.C.
Dr. Wayne Echelberger sdm54 replaces long term Foundation Treasurer, Richard
Sudheimer minn52, who has retired from the position after many years of
dedicated service. Dr. Echelberger, Jr. is Professor Emeritus of Civil and
Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida. He earned his
B.S. at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he was initiated
into Triangle in 1954. He earned his M.S.E., M.P.H. and Ph.D. from the
University of Michigan. Wayne has two children, a dentist in Kentucky and a CPA
in Texas, and five grandchildren.
In addition, the board reelected Scott Bova, CFRE as President of the
Foundation. Mr. Bova serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, a
position he has held since 2000. Under Mr. Bova’s leadership the Foundation has
grown from $1 M in assets to over $4M. Scott resides in Carmel, IN where he
supervises a professional staff of four.
