A Dollar Today, A Leader Tomorrow |
|
In 1985, Ronald Reagan was President, the Titanic was discovered, the first .com was registered, Microsoft Windows 1.0 was released, and Triangle Fraternity started its legacy of opportunities for the education of its members with its first scholarship fund.
In that year Jim Rust pur56, and Triangles across the nation, received the unfortunate news that his mentor, and long time Purdue Chapter advisor, Dr. Elias Sabbagh passed away. In knowing this, Rust felt it only fitting to make sure Sabbagh’s name, and passion for education, lived on by forming a scholarship for the Purdue Chapter in his name. Then Executive Director, Jack Sargent, agreed on the idea after permission was received from Dr. Sabbagh’s two Purdue Triangle sons, Harold and David. and, over the years, sent in a number of gifts to establish the fund. The first award for $1000 was given in 1987 and has continued to this day, impacting the lives of over 20 men of the Purdue Chapter to date.

Tenclinger Honored by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors
Triangle Fraternity Executive Director, Brian Tenclinger, has been selected by the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) as one of their 2010 Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award winners. Tenclinger will be formally presented his award at the AFA’s annual banquet this December in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1985 and re-named for AFA’s second Executive Director, Sue Kraft Fussell, in 2006. The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals who have exhibited high professional standards and achievements in fraternity/sorority advising and outstanding achievements in one or more of the following areas: service to AFA; programming and/or service which reaches beyond the recipient's campus; development and research activities; and/or service to the college and fraternity/sorority communities. Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Awards will be presented to no more than five members of the Association each year.
Tenclinger who has served as Triangle’s Executive Director since August 2006. Prior to joining the team at Triangle, he earned a Bachelor’s in English and Secondary Education from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Supervision. His student affairs career path has taken him to The Florida State University, Tulane University, Iowa State University, and Texas A&M University. In addition to his full-time work, Brian is completing a doctorate degree in leadership and higher education administration. He also volunteers as an alumni mentor for his own fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and as a national specialist for the Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon Program. During Brian’s tenure with Triangle he has led several changes with the leadership programming, launched new partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and the Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester at Sea Program, as well as managed an extensive expansion and growth pattern for the Fraternity. Tenclinger is an extensively published author and sought after presenter and keynote speaker.
On being notified of this honor, Tenclinger commented, “I am so honored and excited to be in such good company with the other honorees of the 2010 Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award. I served on the AFA Executive Board during Sue’s tenure as Executive Director when the Association went through it’s first strategic planning initiative, moved the central office, and more. Sue’s work ethic and enthusiasm for the craft is something I try to emulate daily.”
