A Dollar Today, A Leader Tomorrow |
|
In 1985, Ronald Reagan was President, the Titanic was discovered, the first .com was registered, Microsoft Windows 1.0 was released, and Triangle Fraternity started its legacy of opportunities for the education of its members with its first scholarship fund.
In that year Jim Rust pur56, and Triangles across the nation, received the unfortunate news that his mentor, and long time Purdue Chapter advisor, Dr. Elias Sabbagh passed away. In knowing this, Rust felt it only fitting to make sure Sabbagh’s name, and passion for education, lived on by forming a scholarship for the Purdue Chapter in his name. Then Executive Director, Jack Sargent, agreed on the idea after permission was received from Dr. Sabbagh’s two Purdue Triangle sons, Harold and David. and, over the years, sent in a number of gifts to establish the fund. The first award for $1000 was given in 1987 and has continued to this day, impacting the lives of over 20 men of the Purdue Chapter to date.
If Rust’s impact and generosity weren’t enough with just one scholarship, he decided to go even further by starting another. Initially called the Special Scholarship, which today has become the James H. Rust Scholarship, it was established in 1989 with the first award of $2000 in Fall of 1992. Today, the fund has ballooned to be able to award $6000 each year to an active in need. This amazing award has also made college education a reality for over 20 men.
From the Triangle Education Foundation, and the 40 Triangle men whose lives you’ve impacted, we thank Jim Rust pur56 for helping them reach not only their educational goals but also becoming the leaders for this nation and our world for generations to come. If you want to learn more about scholarships and endowments or helping start one for all Triangles, or specifically for your Chapter, for education and leadership purposes please contact Ryan Hayes at
